Hair Care

These are some of the things that I use to moisturize my natural hair. I started trying them out during my transitioning period. My husband is caucasian with long hair (past shoulder length) and our kids have soft curly hair. The aloe vera gel mixture works great for all of us. The shea butter is my main moisturizer at night on dry hair. The aloe vera gel mixture (see video for recipe) is what I use to re-wet my hair in the morning. The Olive and Coconut Oil for scalp oil treatments, twists and sealing the ends

My hair is pretty thick 4b texture so I only comb it when it’s wet and has conditioner in it (in the shower). First, I use a wide tooth comb. Once I get through it with that, I use my Denman brush. After that, I just use my fingers to style it for a wash n go or use the denman to pull it back. hth

Man, I wish I were in THE City, but no I’m in Colorado. Any Shea butter out here is pretty costly :( . It does last a long time though. Thanks for the comment.

Hey nto sure if you are in a fairly large town or not but i am from NY and Shea butter can be found on just about every corner from street vendors just so you know it might be a cheaper option and keep you from having a delay between when you finish one and when you get your next one. Gud luk on your journey!!

My choice to look for more natural options is an ongoing search. Like anyone who is newly natural, I tried out many products. The sunsilk was a recommendation here on YouTube. I never found it useful and still have a full container of it. Going natural isn’t so much about which products are used. IMO it is more about appreciating who we are, AS we were intended. I now see how dependent I was on chemical relaxer and am proud to be free from it. A bottle of gel doesn’t make me LESS natural

It turns out that the Shea Butter was fine. I just recently ordered another 5lbs and I’m happy with it. I have heard that it can go rancid. I keep it in a closet that stays pretty cool (room temp or lower). Haven’t had any problems.

Shea butter can go rancid. I use it quickly or refrigerate it. Perhaps she sent you an old batch. Because it stinks when rancid.

You can get the organics ‘olive oil deep conditioner’ or other natural deep conditioners..better to shop at black hair stores but you can get natural deep conditioners anywhere. Also remeber to gently wrap her hair at night to prevent too much tangling. God bless!!

You can get shea butter on E-bay. You need to deep condition your daughter’s hair and comb through while the conditioner’s inside it; leave for a while then wash off and apply shea butter, coconut oil or aloe vera gel (or a mix); then detangle gently with a wide tooth comb. The next day simply wet her hair while she is in the sh.ower and comb when shes finished bathing you will find that her hair is super soft and you can simply wet her hair evry mornings to achieve softness. Hope this helps!

My hair was exactly the same way at that age. By 5 yrs it was long and thick. My mom greased my scalp and kept it braided. Grease can clog pores though so try to find Extra Virgin Olive Oil at the grocery store. After washing the hair, rub a little onto the scalp and gently massage. This may help stimulate growth and add moisture. I use Mane & Tail Conditioner on my sons hair as a leave in. I’m working on a shea butter mix for hair that will be sold online along with handmade shea soap.

I use the coconut oil to moisturize my hair so it stays in. Lately, I’ve been using more Vegetable Glycerin for moisture and softness. Shea butter is still one of my favorites though
